The Mayor of Bihac Suhret Fazlic warned of increasing number of migrants on territory of that city, which sits on the north-western part of border between Bosnia and Croatia.

According to the Bosnia and Herzegovina's Border Police, the number of migrants passing through the country has significantly increased during the first three months of 2018. There were 812 of them, ten times more than in the same period of 2018.

“We, as a local community which records increasing number of migrants, will schedule and demand a meeting with all Una-Sana Canton's institutions in charge the next week, in order to form some sort of a 'crisis committee', which would put this problem under control with assistance of state authorities,” said Fazlic.

He also noted that he expected the state and entity institutions to engage in solving of this problem, adding that “we as a local community will be part of the team, in order to help these people”.

Hundreds of thousands of migrants passed through the so-called Balkan route during 2015, trying to reach one of the western countries. Bosnia never was a part of that route, but after it closed in March 2016, migrants started searching for new paths from Greece via Montenegro, Albania, Serbia, and now Bosnia, to the western world.
