European Commission's provisional report on Bosnia and Herzegovina is shorter than the previous ones and covers only some areas like the rule of law, the fundamental rights, the public administration reform, the economic reform.

“It is important to emphasize that this is only a provisional report. It was drafted during this transitional period between the last report on Bosnia and the preparation of the European Commission's opinion on Bosnia after it submitted answers to the Commission's Questionair on Bosnian Accession to EU,” said the Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.

He then talked about the report itself, pointing to the fact that it was shorter than it used to be.

“The report looks at key areas: the rule of law, the fundamental rights and functioning of the rule of law, the public administration reform, the economic reform and development. The transitional report analyses only some parts, and does not include any of the Questionnaire answers submitted in February this year,” Wigemark added.

Compared to to the report from 18 months ago, Wigemark said that Bosnia recorded a regression only in the area of the freedom of the press. Bosnia did not record any progress when it comes to freedom of expression. In the context of fundamental rights and the rule of law, Wigemark stressed the existence of conflict of interest in Bosnia.

Wigemark said it is crucial for Bosnian politicians to take responsibility. “I think it is absolutely crucial that political leaders show a real interest in finding solutions. It is crucial that they take the responsibility, because they are the ones who have a responsibility towards the citizens,” he added.

Bosnia's Finance Minister Vjekoslav Bevanda will receive Wigemark, tomorrow, who will hand over the European Commission's report on the progress Bosnia's EU integration process
