Montenegro is making headway in the process of European integration, successfully fulfilling the obligations arising from the integration process, and represents a good example for the Western Balkans states, concluded the Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic and President of the European Council Donald Tusk, on Sunday evening.

Tusk, who is on a two-day visit to Podgorica, reiterated that Montenegro is a leader in the integration process and a positive example for the region. “This is very important for the European Union as well because it shows that progress is possible in a complicated situation and a complicated region,” Tusk said.

Markovic praised the European Commission's progress report on Montenegro as a useful document for further improvement and acceleration of the Montenegrin negotiating process.

“We have no reason to question either the methodology or the contents of the Report or to criticize the EU’s approach. On the contrary,” Markovic said.

He noted that Montenegro recognizes the EU’s determination to deal with the Western Balkans, ahead of the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit in Sofia, as a great opportunity for the whole region.

Markovic thanked the European leaders – the European Commission's President Jean-Claude Juncker, the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, and the Enlargement Commissioner and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn for their dedication to the region.

Tusk will leave Montenegro for Serbia on Wednesday. He will reside in Kosovo on Thursday, leaving for Bosnia and Herzegovina on the same day. On the last day of the Balkans tour, on Friday, Tusk will stay in Macedonia.
