Heavy rainfall causes trouble across Bosnia

Heavy rainfall forced the Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity to react on several locations in the past 48 hours. According to FUCZ, rivers have spilt from their riverbeds, bridges were damaged, and major traffic problems occurred.

After the heavy rainfall, a bridge in Banovici had moved out of place on Friday. Due to the damage that had occurred to the bridge a village of Behrani was warned against using the said bridge and to resort to other bypass roads.

The heavy rainfall was also recorded in Tesanj, Maglaj, Zavidovici, Doboj-jug and Kakanj. The extremely heavy rain that affected the said municipalities caused rivers and streams to spill and flood the surrounding settlements.

The rain fell in Tesanj Municipality from midnight to 8 o’clock in the morning, causing streams in several local communities to flood the road infrastructure and numerous buildings and agricultural lands.

During the control measurements of the river Usora in Kalosevic, the water level rose by four meters in the last 7 hours, and by measurements at 7 o'clock it was around 450 cm. The water level rise has slowed down and the water levels are expected to decrease, soon.

Around 50 houses have been flooded in Maglaj Municipality. FUCZ also recorded a landslide in the Osve Local Community, in the Maglaj Municipality.

During the session of the Civil Protection Agency of Maglaj Municipality, it was decided to declare a state of natural disaster for the area of Maglaj Municipality.

The river Jablanica flooded the regional road Doboj – Maglaj, cutting off traffic, completely. Several dozen households in Ravne Local Community have also been cut-off from the rest of the Maglaj Municipality after the river destroyed the bridge connecting the Local Community to the rest of Maglaj Municipality.

Zenica-Doboj Canton Interior Ministry confirmed to N1 that more than 100 facilities have been flooded across the Canton.

In the night from May 4th to May 5th, firefighters in the Zavidovici Municipality intervened on several occasions to clear the drains and pump the water out of several houses and businesses.

Due to the severe thunderstorm, there were several shortages on power lines in Bihac, Bosanski Petrovac and Sanski Most.

Large amounts of sludge, branches and trees, caused the traffic on the M-15 Tomina-Vrhpolje highway to be completely suspended. During the suspension, the traffic is rerouted to alternate roads.
