Final reconstruction phase of Sarajevo Olympic Museum begins

The final reconstruction phase of Sarajevo’s Olympic Museum begins today, after 25 years. This final phase plans for the renovation of the facade and the outdoor carpentry, after which the Museum’s interior will be renovated. These expenses will be covered by the Canton Sarajevo and the City of Sarajevo.

I’m glad that we are preserving this facility as a general public good for the future generations. The Museum will be an incentive to the youth as the only sports museum in Bosnia,” said the Olympic Museum’s General Manager Edin Numankadic.

Sarajevo city administration said that the President of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sinisa Kisic and the CEO of the “Unigradnja” company Mustafa Durakovic signed the reconstruction contract in the Museum building.

The Museum is a national monument and one of the most prominent architectural designs of the Austro-Hungarian cultural heritage in Bosnia. The contract was also signed by the CEO of the “Arih plus” company Suad Dugalic, that will oversee the construction works.

Kisic expressed his satisfaction that the final reconstruction phase of this monumental facility finally began.

Thanking the Canton Sarajevo’s Government, the Olympic Committee and the designers of the Olympic Museum’s building headed by Ivan Straus, the Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka stressed that this City administration will always support such projects.

“Our wish is to renovate the things that make our City famous. We will do everything it takes that the Olympic Museum welcomes the athletes and guests from the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in a new light.

EYOF will be hosted by the cities of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo in February next year.
