Bosnia’s Defence Minister Dragan Mektic said after the Migration Operations Staff meeting that some 6,500 migrants entered Bosnia and Herzegovina, so far, of which more than 5,800 expressed their wish for asylum. Of this number, 611 have officially applied for asylum, but none were approved.

“There are no drastic increases of migrants entering the country. We returned some 570 persons to the original country from which they attempted to enter Bosnia,” Mektic said.

He recalled he will meet with EU officials in Brussels, Monday.

“I will convey them these data. Brussels is worried about the migrant situation in Bosnia. I can say that we have sufficient capacities for migrants, but Bosnia can’t bear the burden by itself. We need help concerning migrants,” he concluded.

The Security Minister confirmed the Republika Srpska (RS) entity police and the District Brcko police will join the state Border Police in monitoring the state border and prevention of illegal entries into the country.
