Police in Bihac raided a migrant shelter and detained two of the residents suspected of robbery and drug-related crimes on Thursday.
"Two persons were detained over suspicion that they committed the criminal acts of robbery and enabling the abuse of illicit drugs," the spokesperson of the Interior Ministry in the northwestern Una Sana Canton (USK), Snezana Galic, told N1.
Bihac is one of the towns that have been affected most by the drastic surge of migrants to Bosnia since the beginning of the year.
Bosnia became a significant transit point for migrants after numerous surrounding countries closed their borders. The next stop after Bosnia for the migrants is mostly the country’s western neighbour, Croatia. Croatian border police, however, often turn them back into Bosnia.
Bihac, Cazin and Velika Kladusa are located near Croatia’s border.
The raid of the "Student’s Home" building where a large number of migrants have been accommodated were supported by officials from the Security Ministry and the Service for Foreigners' Affairs.
Police also conducted similar activities in the “Pensioner’s Home” in downtown Bihac, as well as at places in Velika Kladusa where migrants are accommodated.
