State police on Thursday arrested a person who prosecutors suspect was involved in the organisation of a terrorist group and joining foreign paramilitary groups.

The arrest took place in the northeastern town of Gradacac on an order from the Prosecutors’ Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Officers raided the premises the suspect was using and seized ‘military equipment, computers, cell phones and SIM cards, USB sticks and other items that may serve as evidence in the criminal proceedings,’ a State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) statement said.

SIPA said the arrest was made as part of ‘Damascus’, a police operation which has, throughout previous, resulted in several raids and arrests across Bosnia targeted at Islamist networks connected to paramilitary groups in Syria and Iraq.
