US Embassy rejects conspiracy theories concerning them

The US Embassy rejects the unfounded conspiracy theories which could be heard from some media outlets of them being the enemy of the people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They say that instead of dealing with the pressing issues, the politicians making up these stories are deluding people by creating false enemies.

“The U.S. Embassy in Bosnia roundly rejects the completely ridiculous conspiracy theories being disseminated by certain politicians and media outlets in their service,” the Embassy said. “It is shocking that these individuals would stand at a podium and deliver outright lies, especially when their unfounded allegations are so easily disproved.”

Recently, a number of politicians, mostly coming from the Serb dominated Republika Srpska (RS) entity told a number of theories according to which western officials led by the US Embassy are pressuring Bosnia's institutions and meddling in its internal affairs for the sake of their own interests.

One such theory was the outgoing RS President Milorad Dodik's theory that the US Ambassador to Bosnia, Maureen Cormack, attempted to rig the October general election in her favour, and against the election of him personally and members of his party, the nationalist Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD).

The Embassy finds such rhetoric to be irresponsible, inflammatory, and out of line with democratic norms.

“Certain political groups in Bosnia obviously fear that their illegal and corrupt activities will be investigated and prosecuted. Instead of focusing on issues of actual importance to the citizens of Bosnia, their selfish logic is to try to delude citizens by creating false enemies,” they added.

“The United States will not allow itself to be portrayed as an enemy of the people of Bosnia when it is clearly others who are actively working against citizens’ interests.”

In keeping with their longstanding commitment to Bosnia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability and the well-being of its citizens, the Embassy said they will continue to press for measures to build a justice sector to fight terrorism and counter corruption, as well as improve the credibility and transparency of elections, including by calling out electoral fraud when they see it.
