Haradinaj: Kosovo government will revoke tariffs in exchange for recognition

Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said on Monday that his government is ready to temporarily revoke the tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in exchange for international guarantees that an agreement with Belgrade will include recognition of Kosovo.

Haradinaj wrote on his Twitter profile that the tariffs remain in effect “without a back-stop position and international guarantees that the final agreement will result in recognition”.

“The Government of Kosovo will temporarily suspend the tax only after an international guarantee that the final agreement will result in mutual recognition. The guarantee means that there will be substance and seriousness on the most crucial issue – mutual recognition,” he wrote, adding that “there is no reason why the Tax should impede and delay the achievement of a legally binding comprehensive agreement with Serbia”.

“I am deeply convinced that we can reach a legally binding comprehensive agreement with Serbia, resulting in recognition. We are working intensively on a final text – which is why we prepared the Grand Book with all relevant chapters,” he said.
