Bihac police discovered a huge cold weapon cache in the facilities accommodating hundreds of migrants in this north-western Bosnian town. The police raid was carried out after a clash involving several migrants which resulted in severe injuries.

The police will continue carrying out such operations and control all the new migrants who may arrive in the Una-Sana Canton (USK), the region in the north-west of Bosnia bordering with Croatia, said USK Interior Ministry spokesperson Ale Siljdedic.

“Security situation on the canton's territory is much better compared to the (last) summer. No severe criminal offences, which may trigger discomfort among people, were recorded,” he added.

The region has become a hotspot for migrants who entered Bosnia through its eastern border and continued towards the west in the hope they would easily move forward to the European Union (EU) countries, their final destinations.

However, they were left stranded in Bosnian border towns as Croatia kept its border closed for the migrants.

The migrant situation was discussed on Thursday by Bosnia's Security Minister Dragan Mektic and cantonal representatives. They agreed the situation is satisfying.

Some 3,000 migrants who spent in the open larger part of the last year are now accommodated in four temporary shelters provided by the International Organisation for Migrations and with the financial support of the European Commission.

The minister said these four centres will soon be run by Bosnia's Foreigners Affairs’ Service. One of the priorities will be enhancing the security within the migrant shelters by restricting the movement of migrants outside the centres’ areas within the determined hours and relocation of those involved in severe criminal offences.

The canton's delegation led by Prime Minister Mustafa Ruznic asked that the number of migrants in this part of the country is restricted. They also said they had evidence that Croatian police is entering Bosnian territory and illegally transferring migrants to this country.

The Security Ministry said it would investigate the allegations and tell the Croatian police through diplomatic channels to stop this illegal actions.
