Bosnia remains committed to the global fight against terrorism

There is a strong consensus in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the country's participation in the global fight against the international terrorism and ISIS, despite many internal political disagreements, Foreign Affairs Minister Igor Crnadak said in Washington on Wednesday.

Speaking at a ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, Crnadak reminded that Bosnia took specific steps as a partner in the coalition, including the donation of ammunition for the Iraqi Government to enhance the fight of Iraq's forces against ISIS. Bosnia also provided a donation for Afghanistan's national and security forces in the period 2020-2024, and adopted a national strategy to prevent and combat terrorism in the 2015-2020 period.

The minister informed his counterparts about Bosnia's contribution in fighting the international terrorism and ISIS, emphasising that, as a part of the Global Coalition, the country will continue to actively provide support to the Coalition with an aim to recover the damage that ISIS caused.

Foreign affairs ministers also discussed the further steps of the Coalition, which would focus on preventing the new ISIS invasions into Iraq and Syria, through assisting the stabilisation and controlling the security in these countries, according to a statement issued by Bosnia's Foreign Ministry.

The Global Coalition against ISIS was formed in September 2014 and is committed to degrading and ensuring ISIS’ enduring defeat. The partners meet regularly to coordinate efforts across the Coalition’s lines of effort against ISIS. Beyond the military campaign, the Coalition is engaged in stabilising liberated areas, and countering the threat of foreign terrorist fighters, ISIS financing and propaganda

Bosnia joined in 2014 and has been providing its political and diplomatic support to the Coalition since then. The official website says Bosnia so far has donated 572 tons of ammunition to the Iraqi Security Forces, arrested 30 people for fighting as ISIS members in Syria and Iraq, and it deployed to Iraq 350,000 pieces of unexploded ordnance destroyed by the joint US-Bosnia Bomb Disposal Unit.
