In an outrageous incident of domestic violence which shocked Croatia, a 54-year-old man threw his four children, aged 3, 5, 7, and 8, from the first floor of their family home on the island of Pag on Thursday morning.

Following the incident, all four children were hospitalised in the city of Zadar, where attending physicians told local media that two of the four children had sustained serious injuries during the 6-metre fall, including one transferred to the hospital's intensive care unit. The hospital said that the other two are not in a life-threatening condition.

According to witness’ accounts, the man reportedly turned himself into the local police station immediately after the incident, and a police investigation is now underway.

At the start of the government's meeting on Thursday Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic told reporters he was shocked by what he referred to as a “monstrous incident.”
