The first summerlike sunbeams have brought the first visitors to the southern city of Mostar, unofficially marking the beginning of tourist season, which the city authorities hope will be very successful.

“We really do have a significant number of guests, and one of the factors is definitely the weather. Trees already have come into bloom in Mostar, the sun is shining, which attracts both local and foreign guests, so we have quite high expectations,” said Andrija Kresic, the general manager of the Tourist Community in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, the southern administrative region where Mostar is situated.

This year's tourist pre-season and the season could be the most successful so far, he added.

Current visitors, according to Kresic, come mostly from Asian countries but this year the number of guests from Italy and Germany is expected to grow.

Situated in the vicinity of Adriatic coast, the Catholic pilgrimage site of Medjugorje, and other tourist sites like the Kravice Falls, the Hutovo Blato bird reserve and the Blagaj Dervish house, the city of Mostar is annually visited by a million of guests.

If morning shows the day, said Kresic, the number of visitors might exceed the million this year.
