Two miners found dead after a mining accident near Srebrenica

The bodies of two bauxite miners were finally found, on Friday evening, after more than 10 hours of digging through the rubble following a cave-in, in the ‘Boksit’ mine near the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica.

“Immediately after receiving the information, head of the mining sector of the ‘Boksit’ company Dragan Simic informed the Republika Srpska entity’s mining and geological inspectors of the accident who then came to the scene,” the company said.

The CEO of the ‘Boksit’ company, Rajko Dukic, informed the Milici Chief of Police of this unfortunate event, and rescue teams were rushed to the scene.

The company employees assisted them in the clearing of debris in order to get to the miners, quickly.

The ‘Boksit’ company said their employees were shocked by the sad news, and the competent authorities have launched an investigation to see if there were any oversights which could have led to the accident.

The RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic expressed condolences to the company and the families of the deceased miners.

“I was deeply shocked by the news of the mining accident near Srebrenica, in which Slavisa Zugic and Borislav Ostojic lost their lives,” Viskovic said.

The loss of two good men is an irrecoverable loss for their families and the ‘Boksit’ company, he added.

“On behalf of the RS government and myself, I express my deepest and most sincere condolences to the families of the deceased miners and all the employees of the ‘Boksit’ company,” Viskovic concluded.
