The Belgrade-based Beta news agency and its editor in chief Dragan Janjic have received threats of violence, the agency said on Thursday.

“If there is unrest on Saturday it seems to me that Beta will be burned. Nothing as bad as the RTS (Serbian state TV), democratically expressed dissatisfaction,” a text message sent to Janjic said on Wednesday afternoon.

Beta said that this is a very serious threat which has been reported to the police along with the number from which it was sent along with information about earlier messages which were not so explicit.
