Europe seems to be losing credibility, as its behaviour towards resolving Bosnia’s issues is ineffective, a prominent Bosnian journalist and columnist, Ahmed Buric told N1.

He said that Bosnia is a complicated country where its politicians only maintain an illusion of success, but in reality, they are doing everything to cover up the crimes they committed during their time in office.

Speaking about Thursday’s visit of the EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn when he urged Bosnian politicians to form the State level government as soon as possible, after the October general election, Buric said that “nothing is worth doing at all costs – not even forming the government.”

But his biggest concern is the State Prosecution, stressing that interrogation of journalists is scandalous.

Two stories caught public’s eye in recent months – the first was the Diploma affair and the second was the affair of Croatia’s spy agency trying to recruit Bosnian citizens to portray Bosnia as a terrorist haven. Both of them were published by the Zurnal Media outlet.

Every time the Zurnal media outlet, who broke both stories, published a story, the Prosecution would summon the journalists for questioning.

“It is very difficult to work in such an atmosphere. If you’re a responsible journalist doing the job the state should do, the state shouldn’t punish you for it,” Buric noted.

As an example, Buric stated the Diploma affair which, according to him, showed all the inefficiency of the prosecution.

“The affair proved disappointing for the students, and rewarding for criminals,” Buric concluded.

The Diploma affair showed a Zurnal journalist allegedly buying a four-year high school diploma for a nurse. When it was first published, the Prosecution said they initiated an investigation and searched several schools for evidence. Several weeks later, the Prosecution said the investigation was ongoing.
