A 16-year-old Libyan migrant was found unconscious under a bus travelling from Sarajevo to the Eastern-Bosnian town of Srebrenica, on Tuesday.

The migrant was found hanging on a bar near the wheels. The police assume he chose this bus because it had Italian licence plates thinking it would take him to Italy. However, Italian tourists were on their way from Sarajevo to Srebrenica, where the migrant was found.

Unconscious, the 16-year-old was transferred from Srebrenica to Zvornik hospital from where he will be handed over to the Border Police.
Some 25,000 migrants entered Bosnia in 2018 and authorities expect the number to be even higher this year.

According to Bosnia’s Foreigners’ Affairs Service, the number of migrants crossing the border is constantly rising.

Once they enter Bosnia illegally, the migrants usually express an intent to request asylum, as this then permits them to stay in the country legally for 14 days.

Some 1,500 of them actually requested asylum, but none of the requests were approved.

The Service said only 18 percent of migrants are refugees – the rest are economic migrants. Most are Pakistanis, Iraqis but also Syrians, Moroccans and Algerians.
