Bosnia's Foreign Trade Minister Mirko Sarovic plans to introduce a complete ban on timber exports after conducting urgent consultations with competent State institutions and initiating the procedure with the Government, the Ministry said on Friday.

The ban would last for two years, and it would be backed by export taxes on exports of sawn beech and oak materials, in order to protect domestic producers, the Ministry noted.

According to them, the aim is to implement these measures in Bosnia's two semi-autonomous entities with the aim of decreasing the export of timber materials and boost the domestic furniture sector.

Earlier, the Ministry received initiatives to ban timber exports from the Republika Srpska and Federation entity ministries of Agriculture and Forestry.
