Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik is resolute in his efforts to destroy Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic is trying to portray himself to the US as part of the solution and not part of the problem in the Balkans, analyst Daniel Serwer told Vijesti.ba.

Serwer explained that an often-mentioned option of a territorial swap and demarcation between Serbia and Kosovo based on ethnicity would destabilise Bosnia and North Macedonia and would suit Russia’s Vladimir Putin regarding Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

“However, if such a policy would include a stance that Bosnia and Herzegovina must become a functional state which can meet all the conditions for EU membership, I would gladly support it,” Serwer said.

He also commented on Vucic’s statement that he would not sign anything that would imply “Albanians getting everything and Serbia nothing.”

“What could Vucic hope for by recognising Kosovo’s independence? Well, first and foremost, the removal of a insurmountable obstacle for (Serbia’s) membership in the EU,” Serwer stressed.

He added that Germany and several other EU states have clearly stated they would not ratify Serbia’s membership without the complete and irreversible normalisation of relations with Kosovo.
