Bosnia is among the countries where the atmosphere of fear is still present instead of the atmosphere of reconciliation, and the bold ones need support, said German Bundestag member Manuel Sarrazin addressing a conference in Sarajevo on Wednesday, marking the 20th anniversary of the Heinrich Boll Foundation in Sarajevo.

“The ones who have courage to stand up for unity and not divisions, those who are courageous enough to face the brutal war criminals and are not glorifying them, who do not give up before attacks and who have courage to risk their own lives to save the others, and those who have courage to be a human in the fullest sense,” said the parliamentarian, according to the German Embassy's statement.

Bosnian journalist Stefica Galic has been included in June this year in a Bundestag-sponsored programme ‘Parliamentarians protect Parliamentarians’ which promotes the idea of protecting the human rights activists and parliamentarians, who are exposed to threats worldwide.

The war is still present in Bosnia 25 years after its end, MP Sarrazin said, stressing that the many still see the interest in the atmosphere of fear instead of the atmosphere of reconciliation, which is why the bold ones need to be supported.

There are many of such people in Bosnia and one of them is journalist Stefica Galic, he said.

The Mostar-based journalist was exposed to threats mostly on social networks for her reporting on war crimes.

Journalist associations and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) strongly condemned the attacks and urged the authorities to investigate them adequately.
