Skopje and Athens signed on Monday a technical agreement on supervising North Macedonia’s air space once the country joined NATO, the Beta news agency reported.

The deal stipulating Greek control of the neighbour's skies was agreed in April during Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to Skopje.

“We are already in NATO. Today in Athens, we signed the technical agreement with the Greek Ministry of National Defence for supervising our air space. The protection of skies is an exclusive NATO right. We are counting down to our full membership” with the Alliance,” Radmila Sekerinska, North Macedonia's Minister of Defence wrote on her Facebook profile.

North Macedonia is supposed to become a NATO member state by the end of the year.
