The government of Canton Sarajevo asked the Cantonal Prosecution to act urgently in the case of abuse of children with intellectual disabilities placed in the 'Pazaric' home for the protection and care of people with disabilities, on Wednesday.

“We ask the competent institutions, especially the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the competent Minister Vesko Drljaca, to act promptly and inform the public about the situation in the institution and to ensure all conditions for a humane stay and treatment of the patients,” the government said, adding it will provide all the available resources during the investigation period.

During Wednesday's press conference at the FBiH House of Representatives, MP Sabina Cudic presented shocking details about the treatment of patients, especially the children, at the Institute for the Care of Mentally Disabled Children and Youth ‘Pazaric.’

Photos she provided to the media show children being tied to furniture and radiators. Some had their hands tied behind their backs, many children spend most of the day and all night in such a position, and because of such treatment, they suffered physical injuries and worsened psychological state.

Director of the Institute Redzep Salic held his own press conference after Cudic published her photographs saying the photographs were an attack on the work of the Institute and the staff caring for the children.

A group of some 30 concerned Sarajevo residents gathered in front of the FBiH Parliament building after Cudic's press conference to demand immediate action from the authorities.
