The head of the ‘Forgotten Children of War’ association, Ajna Jusic, will address United Nations representatives in New York on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on behalf of all children born as a consequence of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as children born of war throughout the world.

Jusic (25) was born as a consequence of wartime sexual violence. She started a campaign for children who share her fate and has spoken at numerous international conferences, as some of the fathers of those children were members of peacekeeping forces and humanitarian missions who were stationed in Bosnia during the 1992-1995 war.

Her goal is for children born as a result of sexual violence and their mothers to receive special status and be recognised in the law on civilian victims of war, as well as to eliminate the stigma those children and mothers face so they can be equal members of society.

Along with the Chief of Cabinet to the UN Secretary-General, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Jusic will speak as part of the UNiTE campaign, which is organised by UN Women and has the goal to eliminate violence against women by 2030.

"UNiTE calls on governments, the civil society, women's rights organizations, young people, the private sector, the media and the entire UN system to unite against the global pandemic of violence against women and girls. The campaign is based on existing international laws and regulations," a UNiTE statement said.
