Bosnia’s three Presidency members have sent telegrams expressing their condolences to the Albanian President Ilir Meta after his country was struck with an earthquake which killed, at the time of writing, at least 11 people.

"Dear President Meta, Receive my deepest condolences on the tragedy caused by the earthquake that struck your country. At these difficult times, we express our deepest sympathy and solidarity with you. Please convey our condolences to the families of the victims and to the entire Albanian people,” said the telegram by Bosniak Presidency member, Sefik Dzaferovic.

He called on institutions and humanitarian organisations in Bosnia to offer assistance to Albanian authorities.

The Croat Presidency member and current Chairman of the institution, Sefik Dzaferovic, also sent a telegram.

"Allow me to express my deepest condolences in the name of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and personally regarding the suffering of the Albania’s citizens,” Komsic wrote in his note, wishing for a “swift recovery for all the injured."

The Serb Presidency member, Milorad Dodik, sent a message as well.

"It is with great regret and sadness that we received the news of the devastating earthquake that hit your country, especially because of the victims of this natural disaster. Please convey to the families of the victims my sincere condolences and solidarity for the pain that has afflicted them," his telegram states.

The quake, which had a preliminary rating of 6.4 magnitude, hit Albania at an approximate depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles) early Tuesday local time, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The epicenter was in the port city of Durres, about 13 miles from the capital Tirana. Social media videos from the area show several buildings have collapsed.

Apart from the 11 confirmed deaths, the quake caused a number of persons to go missing and injured at least 325 people.
