Migrants set up tent camp at Tuzla bus station to survive freezing cold

More than 100 migrants have set up a tents camp at the bus station in the northeastern city of Tuzla where they sleep in sub-zero temperatures, as authorities have still not secured shelter for them.

“It is very cold. We did not sleep all night. We all sat here together. It was snowing and windy,” Dad Muhamed, from Afghanistan, told N1.

“The nights here are cold, very cold. And the people only have tents,” said Rahman Akram, from Pakistan.

Various NGOs and volunteers bring the migrants food and clothes. But another migrant from Afghanistan, Abzel Fazal, who has meanwhile learned the Bosnian language, explained that the migrants do not need food anymore.

“We need a house where we will sleep,” he stressed.

“People are sleeping in the cold. I take their clothes and I wash them. I give them blankets,” one of the volunteers, Dzemila Vehabovic, told N1.

“No blankets can help here anymore. It is too cold. These people need accommodation. This is no longer a question of whether it is under the competencies of the state, the city or the municipality. When human lives are the issue, I think we all have competencies,” said another volunteer, Senad Piric.
