The charges raised against former Bosnian Serb general Milomir Savcic, who is accused of involvement in the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, confirm that Bosnia’s Prosecutor’s Office “still considers that only one ethnic group had victims, while justice for the Serb victims is not only slow but impossible to achieve,” the Bosnian Serb member of the tripartite Presidency said on Tuesday.

“The fact is that the public found out about these charges against general Savcic only a few hours before the New Year and that gives us reason to suspect that someone wanted to initiate this process as soon as possible and avoid attention from the public,” Milorad Dodik said.

According to the charges, former Bosnian Serb Commander Milomir Savcic allegedly “knowingly provided help to other members of the joint criminal enterprise” which included Ratko Mladic and other former top Bosnian Serb army officials in “capturing and swiftly killing and burying Bosniak men fit for military service from the Srebrenica enclave” to “eliminate an ethnic group from a certain area.”

Dodik stressed that Savcic is innocent and that he “fought with honour for the protection of his people.”
