The US Embassy and Sarajevo Canton Government have improved their cooperation in fighting corruption by appointing a US expert as a special advisor in the cantonal anti-corruption office, according to the Government's press release.

Benjamin A. Rockwell, the US Embassy's representative, met Head of Sarajevo Canton Government Edin Forto, Justice Minister Lejla Brcic and Assembly Speaker Danijela Kristic, to discuss joint fight against corruption, preeviously defined by the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year by Ambassador Eric Nelson, State Department's senior official Jorgan Andrews and prime minister Forto.

The deal determined the US assistance in strengthening the capacities of the Sarajevo Canton's Anti-Corruption Office.

Rockwell told the cantonal officials that the process of identifying an anti-corruption expert, who is a US citizen and will be working within the cantonal anti-corruption office, is in the final stage. According to him, this will be a person with experience in successful investigating and processing of public corruption cases.

The officials emphasised their goal was to build the capacities and support institutional cooperation between the Sarajevo Canton police, prosecution, anti-corruption office and other institutions.
