Police in the northwestern Una-Sana Canton (USK) detained ten Afghani and Pakistani migrants and seized an unspecified amount of narcotics and items that could be used as weapons during a raid on Wednesday in the ‘Bira’ migrant reception centre, the Canton Interior Ministry said.

Some 150 officers raided the migrant reception centre in Bihac, one of the areas most affected by the migrant crisis.

“The activity was targeted at finding the persons suspected of committing crimes against sexual freedoms and morals, including the crimes of rape and sexual acts with a helpless person,” said the spokesperson of the Una-Sana Canton Interior Ministry, Ale Siljdedic, adding that officers also sought persons suspected of drug abuse and trafficking.

There are currently nearly 2,000 persons staying at the Bira migrant centre, including between 350 and 400 minors and unaccompanied children. More than 5,000 people are staying in the USK area at the moment and up to 100 new migrants arrive daily.
