Two new cases have been discovered in the south Bosnian city of Mostar, four in the central Bosnian city of Konjic, N1's Tina Jelin-Dizdar learned on Thursday.

This information was confirmed by Mostar Hospital director Ante Kvesic.

The total number of infected patients is now 45.

“Mostar now has a total of five confirmed cases. It's very hard to remain rational in this situation. The entire family of the post-partal woman was placed in isolation and no one was able to come for the baby which came to this world three days ago. The husband worked at the dispensary which makes the situation even worse,” Jelin-Dizdar said.

A total of Mostar 28 doctors are also in isolation, but they feel fine and have no symptoms, she said, adding that so far 120 individuals reported being in contact with the first-infected.

Unofficially, N1 learned that the Mostar hospital is undergoing a reorganisation because of the situation in the hospital.

Earlier this week, a man came into the Mostar hospital complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. Instead of being taken to screening for coronavirus, he was taken to the pulmonology department, across the hospital, to be checked out there.

The man turned out to be infected with the new coronavirus, and everyone who was in contact with him in the hospital is now suspected of being infected. With him, he brought his son who was also sick but first tests showed he was negative for COVID-19.

Other people, including a woman who just gave birth, who were in contact with him were tested and some were positive – as is the case with the said woman. Her baby is expecting the results to arrive on Thursday (today).

The Prosecution of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, whose administrative centre is the City of Mostar, is investigating why the man was not screened at the entrance of the hospital for the new coronavirus and looking into a possible case of malpractice by the hospital staff.

Konjic registered its first four cases of COVID-19. Infection occurred during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of “Igman” arms factory on March 11. The event was attended by the political leadership of Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity and a guest from Serbia who was later reported to be infected with the COVID-19.
