In the last 24 hours, there have been eight new infections with the novel coronavirus in Croatia, bringing the total number to 2,047, whereas the death toll has risen by four to 63, Croatia's Covid-29 crisis management team said at a daily news conference on Tuesday.

As for the latest fatalities, those were four elderly persons, born in 1926, 1939, 1940 and in 1961, and they had had underlying health conditions, according to information provided by Health Minister Vili Beros. Two of those four victims were on ventilators.

There are currently 21 Covid-19 patients on ventilators.

Since the outbreak of the disease in late February, Croatia has tested 33,577 samples, and of them 760 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours. The percentage of positive tests stands at 6.1 percent.

Beros: Downward trend does not mean we can be less cautious

A total of 1,232 Croatians have recovered since start of epidemic.

Currently 287 people are being treated in hospitals due to the disease, 16 fewer than on Monday, and 532 patients have been discharged after the recovery, 15 more than on Monday.

The number of those who have recovered at home has increased by 51 to 700.

“This downward trend in the number of infections must not mean less caution,” Minister Beros said.
