Turkey and Pakistan warn that Srebrenica genocide must never be forgotten

Anadolija

Both Turkish President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan warned on Saturday that 25 years ago, the world stood by as over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were slaughtered in the then UN safe zone of Srebrenica when it was overrun by Bosnian Serb Forces.

Although a quarter-century has passed since the genocide, our pain is still fresh. We will follow up on the murders and massacres against our Bosnian brothers and sisters, and will never leave you alone in your search for justice,” Turkey's Erdogan said in a video message commemorating the 25th Srebrenica genocide anniversary.

“The recent anti-Islamic attacks in Western countries show that we need to be vigilant on this issue. Despite all this tragedy, massacre and tears, European politicians have not learned from the Srebrenica massacre,” he said.

Pakistan's Imran Khan said he still remembers the day very well.

“I remember when it happened, along with most people who have feelings of humanity – we were shocked! We were appalled at how in, what was a safe haven of the United Nations peacekeeping force, how in a safe haven this was allowed – this massacre was allowed to take place. We were all shocked, I still remember when it happened, I still feel the shock how such a thing could be allowed by the world community. I think it's important for us to learn lessons from that. The world community must never allow such things to happen again,” he noted in a video message which can be heard in its entirety below:
