The Red Crescent of the Republic of Turkey will distribute over 60 tons of sacrificial meat (qurban) throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina marking the Eid al-Adha, one of the greatest Muslim feasts, Anadolu Agency said Saturday.

Suat Sokullu the representative of the Turkish Red Crescent in the country, told Anadolu Agency that they have already started distributing the meat, adding that they plan to distribute it at a number of locations throughout Bosnia.

“Part of the meat will be divided among seven national soup kitchens and the rest we will distribute to people who are in a state of need. We want these people to feel the joy and happiness of Eid,” Sokullu said.

Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha with a sacrifice, usually a sheep, honouring Ibrahim (Abraham) who wanted to sacrifice his son Ismael (Isaac in Judeo-Christian tradition) in God's honour.

Sokullu pointed out that the meat will be distributed to people in remote rural areas in order to help them at least a little and make their Eid holidays more enjoyable.

He noted that five-kilogram packages of meat will be distributed to households at 80 locations in the country, including the elderly, socially vulnerable, members of the Roma population, as well as other vulnerable categories.

Ilyas Yildirim, the Director-General for Culture and Arts of the Red Crescent of the Republic of Turkey, also visited Bosnia during the distribution of meat.
