Canton Sarajevo PM orders all medical staff to return from vacation

Canton Sarajevo Prime Minister Mario Nenadic ordered, on Thursday, that all heads and members of the Health Ministry's Crisis Staff, Ministry employees, CEOs and members of other management bodies in healthcare facilities across the Canton to cease the use of planned vacations until further notice, over the worsening situation regarding Covid-19.

“All those who are currently on vacation must report to work immediately and thus make themselves available to the citizens of Sarajevo Canton and the Ministry of Health, which organizes, coordinates and supervises the current fight against the spread of the coronavirus infection, as well as the recovery and treatment of all our fellow citizens who unfortunately have already contracted the infectious disease COVID-19,” Nenadic said in his statement.

The reason for this order, he said, is the fact that the epidemiological situation in Canton Sarajevo has worsened recently, resulting in the increase of people infected with Covid-19.

Canton Sarajevo and the country's capital have been hit with high numbers of cases over the past few weeks, with new cases almost always numbering close to 100.

According to the University Clinical Centre in Sarajevo, after testing 502 samples in the past 24 hours, 85 came back positive, 74 of which were from Sarajevo.

According to the Civil Affairs Ministry, Bosnia has recorded 13,138 cases of Covid-19 since the outbreak began in the country, of which 6,839 recovered and 379 have died.
