Informal meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers to take place August 27 and 28

Ministers of Foreign and European Affairs will have an informal meeting on Thursday and Friday to talk about Belarus, the EU's relations with Turkey and Russia, and the geopolitical impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Croatia's Foreign and European Affairs Ministry has said

Ministar Gordan Grlic Radman will attend the informal meeting, known as the Gymnich meeting, on August 27 and 28.

The two-day meeting will be an opportunity for informal discussion of current trends and issues at the European and international level. On the agenda are the topics of Belarus, relations between the EU and Turkey, also in the context of the events in the Eastern Mediterranean region, relations between the EU and Russia, and the geopolitical effect of the coronavirus pandemic and EU's strategic response, the press release said.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the ministers will meet with their Israeli colleagues, Gabriel Ashkenazi, to talk about the Middle East peace process and the situation in that region and the future of the relations between the EU and Israel.

Informal meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers take place twice a year in the member state holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas is the host, and the meeting will be chaired by High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Josep Borrell.
