Bosnia’s Democratic Front (DF) party urged the European Union to sanction Croatia’s Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, alleging that he called for the obstruction of the implementation of rulings by the European Court of Human Rights in his recent speech at the UN General Assembly.

"The fact is that behind the phrases and political constructions that Plenkovic uttered at the UN Assembly, such as the alleged need to achieve full constituency and the adoption of an appropriate Election Law, there is a direct call to obstruct the implementation of rulings by the European Court of Human Rights in Bosnia. and Herzegovina,” the party said.

“It is known that the same Court in the Zornic case ruling marked the constituency as a consequence of genocide and ethnic cleansing, which is clearly seen in article 45 of the mentioned verdict, and accordingly it is necessary to reject that principle in order to eliminate discrimination,” it said, quoting the article.

"In the Sejdic and Finci verdict, the Court noted that at the time the disputed constitutional provisions were enacted on the ground, a very fragile ceasefire had taken place, and that the aim of these provisions was to stop the brutal conflict marked by genocide and ‘ethnic cleansing’. ., (article 45). The nature of that conflict was such that it was necessary to agree to ‘constituent peoples’ in order to ensure peace. "

"Instead, and contrary to the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia calls for the further strengthening of this principle, and further strengthening of this principle is possible only by obstructing the implementation of judgments of the European Court,” the DF said.

“In this regard, the Democratic Front believes that the institutions of the European Union should adequately sanction the political and public obstruction of the implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights by the Prime Minister of an EU member state,” the statement concluded.
