To curb the spread of the COVID-19 infection, the Slovenian government has reduced to number of people allowed to gather from ten to a maximum of six, and as of Tuesday a curfew will be in place from 21:00 to 6:00 every night, Interior Minister Ales Hojs told a press conference on Monday.

In addition, all public events, church services and weddings are banned in the entire country.

Gatherings of up to six people can take place only with adherence to distancing measures.

The night-time curfew does not apply only to situations when a person's life, health or property are in danger, to travelling to and from work and to essential services.

As of midnight today, with some small exceptions, it will not be possible to travel outside the home region, and crossing the state border has also been strictly regulated.

If you have property abroad where you urgently must do something, then it is possible to cross to border for only that purpose, Hojs said.

The Slovenian government last night declared a nationwide state of COVID-19 epidemic for the next 30 days, and the current epidemiological measures and restrictions could become stricter.

On Sundey, after 2,637 coronavirus tests were performed, Slovenia confirmed 537 new coronavirus infections, there are nearly 300 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, and there are over 7,100 active cases.

Government's COVID-19 spokesman Jelko Kacin said on Monday that the number of new single-day cases was expected to continue growing.
