The ‘Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – Pod lupom’ (Under the Magnifying Glass) said on Thursday that it registered 880 irregularities in the 2020 local election process between September 7 and October 25.

The local election in Bosnia is set for November 15.

“The largest number (of irregularities) refers to the premature, legally prohibited election campaigning,” said project coordinator Dario Jovanovic, adding that 242 such cases were reported to the NGO in 65 municipalities and cities.

“This is followed by irregularities referring to the work of civil servants in the election campaign with 117 cases in 41 municipalities and cities, and the misuse of public resources in 101 cases in 45 municipalities and cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he said.

The NGO also said that it registered 59 cases of abuse of personal data, 50 cases of trading in seats in local election councils, 50 cases of biased reporting in the media and 43 cases of pressuring voters and vote-buying.

“Observers of the ‘Pod Lupom’ coalition recorded 32 cases of incitement of ethnic, religious or other intolerance and hate speech, while in seven municipalities there were reports of a bigger number of registration or deregistration of voters, which may indicate electoral engineering,” Jovanovic said.
