Observing all the prescribed pandemic precaution measures, the Sarajevo University commemorated on Monday professor emeritus Hasan Muratovic, the former statesman and university dean who died from COVID-19.
The current dean, Rifat Skrijelj, told reporters he was sorry about professor Muratovic’s death, saying his passing was a loss for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the academic community since Muratovic led the Sarajevo University through its reform process while serving as the dean.
“Just a visionary such as the one he was could implement these reforms without destroying the existing qualities,” Skrijelj said.
Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Aziz Sunje, said Professor Muratovic was one of the most distinguished officials of post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina who left a special impact on the country and its academic community with his charisma, integrity, power of knowledge while serving as a top state official and top manager.
Muratovic served as prime minister from 1996 to 1997. He then served as the country’s ambassador in Croatia after which he devoted himself to his academic career.
He was dean from 2004 until 2006.
