US State Department top official urged Bosnia Presidency members to fully realize the promise of peace by enacting the governance reforms necessary to enable Bosnia and Herzegovina to achieve Euro-Atlantic integration.

The message comes on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords, a peace treaty that ended the 1992-95 Bosnian war, which was commemorated today in a virtual meeting of Deputy Secretary of State Stephen E. Biegun and three members of Bosnia's State Presidency, Milorad Dodik, Zeljko Komsic and Sefik Dzaferovic.

Biegun underscored that the US deeply “values its longstanding partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina; supports its sovereignty and territorial integrity; and continues to stand as a steadfast partner committed to our shared goal of a democratic, inclusive, and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina on the path to full Euro-Atlantic integration,” according to a press release by US Embassy.

The US official and the Presidency members agreed that the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina deserved “lasting stability, effective governance, and accountable leaders who work together to ensure economic opportunities for all.”

It was also emphasised during the meeting that the US provided 2 billion assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina since the Dayton Agreement, to ensure peace and stability in the Western Balkans.

On the same occasion, Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Philip Reeker, conveyed a message to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
