Bosnia's tripartite Presidency member Bakir Izetbegovic told the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Bosnia made significant progress and that the Presidency paid special attention to the process of Bosnia's Euro-Atlantic integration.

He pointed out that the Presidency reached a consensus on some strategic documents: Bosnia's Foreign Policy Strategy for the period 2018-2023, the Defence Review and the Development and Modernization Plan of Bosnia's Armed Forces for the period 2017-2027.

Izetbegovic informed Stoltenberg about the implementation of activities concerning the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) activation and said that the Foreign Policy Strategy focuses on the activities related to NATO.

These activities will primarily deal with the MAP activation for which there is a political consensus in Bosnia. According to Izetbegovic, Bosnia can become a stable, prosperous, European country in the next 10 years, but that it needs further support.

He told his interlocutors that Bosnia is continually taking part in the UN's peace keeping missions and that 60 Bosnian units have been deployed in Afghanistan, under the “Resolute Support” mission.

MAP activation is of key importance for the future cooperation development between Bosnia and the NATO.

Izetbegovic spoke of these topics with the ambassadors of the US, the UK, Germany, France and Italy, at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.
