Izetbegovic on Peljesac Bridge project: Croatia was warned

N1

Croatia has continued implementation of the disputable project despite all warnings, and Bosnia will inform the European Commission about that, said the member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency Bakir Izetbegovic, commenting the Peljesac Bridge construction contract that Croatia signed on Monday with a Chinese company.

Izetbegovic reminded that the Bosnia's Presidency adopted a conclusion in 2007 and asked Croatia to halt the bridge construction until the open issues of identification of maritime boundary line and Bosnia's access to the international waters are solved.

According to Izetbegovic, this is a joint and clear stance of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the bridge construction.

He recalled that Croatia's authorities received a letter from the European Commission, where they were, as Izetbegovic put it, explicitly warned to solve the dispute with Bosnia before the bridge construction starts.

Despite all warnings, the Republic of Croatia has continued the implementation of the disputable project, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will inform the European Commission, which is financing the bridge construction, about it, and will take other steps in order to protect its rights it is entitled to in accordance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, said Izetbegovic's office on Monday.
