Following the veterans’ protests in front of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity Parliament building, Veterans’ Affairs Minister Salko Bukvarevic said that the FBiH Government had already fulfilled some of their demands, like the financing of veterans’ associations.

“The FBiH had already stopped financing the veterans’ organisations with BAM 300,000 (around EUR 150,000) annually, but the cantons and municipalities did not,” Bukvarevic said.

“The Canton of Sarajevo alone provides some BAM 1 million (around EUR 500,000) annually, for these purposes. The veterans are knocking at the wrong door.”

Talking about the veterans registry, the Minister said: “If the legislator provides us with a legal framework, we will publish the registry.”

Bukvarevic added that “the publication of the veterans’ registry in the Republic of Croatia provided no results, except false reports. If the Parliament provides additional BAM 300 million (around EUR 150 million) for new beneficiaries of the veterans’ disability allowance, we will service those funds as well.”

Earlier today, a group of several hundred veterans of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croat Defence Council gathered in front of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity Parliament building demanding that the FBiH House of Representatives (HoR) discuss their demands.

Their demands are the publication of a single war veterans’ registry, an abolition of financing of veterans’ associations, and that they start receiving a monthly veterans’ allowance.
