Macedonia’s top police official lost his job after sending his daughter to Greece with a bodyguard in a police SUV, the Beta news agency reported on Tuesday.

Director of Police Lazar Velkovski was dismissed by Internal Affairs Minister Oliver Spasovski following the publication of photographs of his daughter in a police Range Rover holidaying in Greece.

The media in Skoplje reported that Velkovski’s daughter took her friends with her.

Velkovski broke silence after days of media reports to claim that his family had been threatened, causing him to send his daughter on vacation with a police bodyguard in a police vehicle.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said that Velkovski, a member of his ruling SDSM party, would be held accountable but would still have a job in the ministry as an expert.
