Police arrested a person under suspicion of robbing three migrants originating from India, the Interior Ministry of the Una-Sana Canton, Bosnia's western region, said on Wednesday.

According to the police report, the three migrants said they contacted the person in question through a social network, arranging a transportation from the western Bosnia's town of Bihac to Italy in return for a certain amount of money.

The suspect, with his name initials B.E., took the migrants to Bihac suburb, telling them they should continue to neighbouring Croatia on foot, said the police report. After the migrants refused to pay, the suspect took the amount of EUR 500 from one of the migrants and left the spot.

The police identified and apprehended the suspect, taking him to further processing. A competent prosecutor's office in the Una-Sana Canton took over the case.

Bihac has become a hotspot for the migrants taking Bosnia as a shortcut route to their final destinations in the western Europe. According to the state institutions, some 11,000 migrants entered Bosnia through its eastern border since the beginning of the year, heading towards the west of the country in an attempt to reach the European Union. Although a large percentage of migrants expressed the will to seek the asylum in Bosnia as a part of the regular procedure, a very few did so and, so far, none of them was granted the asylum.
