Bosnia’s Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegovic sent a letter of condolences to the family of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, on behalf of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying that Annan’s recognition of UN’s mistake in Srebrenica, helped genocide survivors find the truth.

Izetbegovic recalled the incumbent UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ words who said that Kofi Annan was a symbol of the UN in many ways.

“He witnessed and participated in the UN's most serious omissions and mistakes that led to the genocide in Srebrenica,” Izetbegovic said quoting Guterres.

“His human quality to admit a mistake and to apologize for it made it easier to seek the truth for the victims of genocide and their families, which was confirmed by the verdicts of international tribunals”, Izetbegovic’s letter said.
