The Sarajevo Canton published its own Register of veterans and users of veteran-disability aid, on Thursday. This information was confirmed by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity Veterans’ Affairs Ministry to N1.

“All our website visitors can see the presentation about the Register but only official institutions can have access to it and check individual names. We’re looking for a solution what information will be available to everyone and what not,” the Ministry told N1. “The Law on the Protection of Personal Information protects the Unique Master Citizen Number.”

The Ministry's website allows users to see the basic statistical information from the Register, such as the total number of veterans in individual municipalities, the time veterans spent in the war and the number of users of veterans’ aid.

The Ministry noted that the Register is available to all levels of authorities in the FBiH, but the information from the Registry itself is an official secret and can be used only for official purposes.

In the past couple of months, veterans from all over the FBiH held protests across this semi-autonomous entity, requesting the publication of the Single Veteran Register, the veterans’ allowance and the end of the financing of veterans’ associations.

During the September protest, the veterans clashed with the police leaving several veterans and police officers injured.
