A Greek government spokesman said on Thursday that the prime ministers of Macedonia and Greece have confirmed their commitment to implementing the agreement to resolve the dispute over the name of the former Yugoslav republic.

Spokesman Dimitris Tsanakopoulos said that Prime Ministers Alexis Tsipras and Zoran Zaev spoke by telephone following the resignation of Foreign Minister Nikos Kotsias. “They reiterated that they are both working to implement the Prespa agreement,” he said.

Macedonian media quoted Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov who said he would continue his efforts to round off the historic solution to the dispute.

The Macedonian government organized a referendum on the agreement which failed because of a low turnout after the country’s president Gjorgje Ivanov spoke out against the deal.
