NBA star: Locals were informed about the power plant

All the necessary permits for the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Jablanica river have been approved, renown Bosnia-born NBA star Mirza Teletovic told N1 on Monday in response to a protest locals staged on Saturday regarding his project.

Several dozen citizens held a peaceful protest on Saturday near the town of Jablanica against the construction of the small hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Teletovic. The Coalition for the Protection of Bosnian Rivers and several dozen residents of Jelacic and Zlate settlements, near the south-western town, said that Teletovic is building the power plant without their approval and that he is trying to build his ‘American dream’ over the backs of his neighbours.

“Every permit you get from any institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina includes a timeframe within which someone may complain,” Teletovic said. “Everyone was informed in time, there were even informative gatherings in their local communities. Everyone had the right to complain back then, but nobody did.”

Teletovic said the protest was attended by “some 12 people”.

“The allegations are completely baseless,” he said, adding that experts can always check the relevant project documentation. The Coalition for the Protection of Bosnian Rivers said earlier that none of the locals were informed about the project.
