What is the goal of Saturday's ‘Traditional Family Day’ march?

On Saturday, a day before Bosnia’s first Pride Parade is scheduled, opponents will march through Sarajevo as part of the ‘Day of Traditional Family’ event in an effort to promote traditional family values, participants told N1 on Wednesday.

“It is not one association organising it, but many associations that want to express support for the event,” said Ahmed Kulanic, the PR for the Traditional Family Day.

Family medicine doctor Marijana Agic said that she is not a member of the association but only joined the initiative to “present the other side of the story.”

“We are aware of the fact that we are a democratic society in a transition. Some things that come to our society are inevitable. The Pride on Sunday has a purpose, its message and its goal. We feel inspired, this is not an act of revolting as much as it is a presentation of a traditional side of our society,” she said.

“We are trying to represent a balance and present the part of society which is opposed to some new developments,” she added.

“The fact is that we advocate traditional values automatically puts us on the opposing side to what is happening. The traditional family is defined by law. It is a family composed of parents and children. We are asking for more attention to be paid to the family,” Kulanic said.
